The first Biennale of Arts in Santorini is a fact!
A group exhibition of various artistic expressions including photography, art installations, collage, graphic design, glass and paper handicrafts, sculpture, video art, cinema and many more will turn the headlights to Greece and Santorini this challenging year.
Santorini Biennale is a private initiative mainly supported by local entrepreneurship sparkled by the urge to infuse hope and generate progress through culture and art.
Cycladia could not but support this distinctive event in the unique island of Santorini and spread the word!
Concept: “Past”
Seeing the future through the perspective of past. This is the main thematic of Santorini Biennale attempting to illustrate the future based on a “chronographic” itinerary through tradition, time, memories, nostalgia, and history, all expressed through various forms of art in simultaneous exhibitions and events of different artistic forms.
Idea
The first seeds were planted by the man behind the scenes, Mr. Kikos Papadopoulos, when he first came to Santorini in 2001. His wandering through the island’s architecture, tradition, culture and beauty initiated a process that was finally shaped in 2012 through the first Biennale of Arts on the island.
Organizing Body
The Santorini Biennale is a non-profit organization, based in Thira, Santorini, aiming at the study and presentation of matters that are interconnected and correlate with collectivism and social engrossment. Its main source of inspiration is the birth of ideas and their propagation through various social structures throughout time and space.
Activities
Having as its base the village of Pyrgos, Santorini Biennale will expand and exhibit works of art in various spots and venues on the island. The event started just yesterday (1st July) with various exhibitions but the official opening celebration is scheduled for the 1st of August. Along with that, the artistic competitions will start and end together with the entire event.
The final winners of the competition and the awards’ ceremony will take place on the 29th September, ending this first attempt to diffuse art in its various forms in the most wanted Greek destination, the breathtaking island of Santorini.
The Santorini Biennale will officially end on the 30th September, leaving its mark not only in Santorini but also Greece, in those difficult times when creativity, optimism and hope are the basis for a new beginning!
So Santorini is the place and Santorini Biennale of Arts 2012 is the event of the year!
We will all be there…
